At the market – Saturday September 8th

The September heat is upon us but Saturday’s market will welcome 70 degree weather and an impressive local bounty. Our music tent will feature the spirited Mowgli (9-11am) and dance-worthy Trio Cafe Budapest (11am-1pm). This time of year we get to enjoy both summer AND winter squash, apples, plums, beans, shishito peppers, crispy greens, and more. How cool is it to know where all this amazing food comes from, who grows it, and how it’s grown? Our vendors are committed to feeding you well – thanks for supporting them, your health, the planet’s health, and the local economy all at the same time!

Here are the ALL LOCAL vendors and their products coming to the market this week:

LOCAL FARMS

  • East Mountain Farm – Kim will have pasture-raised chickens, thinly-sliced deli ham, and his customary array of link and bulk sausages (sweet, hot, and breakfast), bratwurst, ribs, chops, bacon, ground pork/beef, and pork tenderloins. (Note: East Mountain Farm accepts SNAP payments). Try a sample of Kim’s meats at his booth and in the dishes prepared-to-order by both Robin’s and Cornucopia Food Truck. Kim’s latest additions include hot dogs and chorizo.
  •  Grateful Greens –  James is offering microgreens: sunflower, pea, radish, basil, arugula, and amaranth! Great for salads or to top pretty much any dish.
  • Hay Berry Farm – Lawrie brings shiitake mushrooms, rhubarb, dried flower arrangements, honey in jars and on comb, potted red amaranth flowers, freshly cut lavender, globe amaranth plants, newly-harvested spring honey, and… more blueberries!
  •  Hosta Hill – raw, naturally fermented veggies including sauerkrauts, kimchis, tonics and hot sauces.
  •  M and A Farm – squash, lettuce, radishes, arugula, pork, eggs, and goat’s milk soap.
  • Mighty Food Farm –Lisa will have lettuce, sweet onions, red onions, garlic, shallots, leeks, lots of sweet peppers, tomatoes, kale, Red Kuri winter squash, Delicata squash, red and gold potatoes, basil, and baby salad mix. What an assortment!
  •  Mountain Girl Farm – Kathy will be working the booth this week and selling pickled eggs, pumpkin pecan muffins, apple walnut cake, garlic dill, bread and butter pickles, tons of preserves, goat milk soap, pickled beets, and pickled brussel sprouts. (Note: Mountain Girl Farm accepts SNAP payments)
  • Shaker Hill Orchard – Tom will be selling these apple varieties: McIntosh, Gala, Cortland, Yellow Supreme. He will also have Bubble Gum Plums!
  • Sweet Brook Farm – local maple syrup (in varieties perfect for tasting, cooking…and over pancakes!) maple candies, maple roasted nuts, tasty pickles…and alpaca socks (apparently these socks are amazing).
  • Windswept Farm —  John will be bringing flowers, corn, tomatoes, squash, peppers, blueberries, two varieties of peaches, crisp eating apples and late strawberries!
  • Bigfoot Farm – Brian will be selling his Bigfoot Said Mix, arugula, tomatoes, potatoes, green beans, winter squash, summer squash, carrots, beets, celery, sweet peppers, shishito peppers (what a treat!), husk cherries, kale, herbs, and arranged flowers.
  • Blair Farm – The Quimbys bring sweet corn, broccoli, squash, radishes, cucumbers, raspberries, blueberries, potatoes, flowers, and their town-favorite eggs.
  • Peace Valley Farm – Bill and Susie will be gone this weekend but will return soon!

LOCALLY PREPARED FOODS

  • Chris’s Kitchen and Serendipity Quilt Designs –  Chris will be bringing brownies, blondies, lemon bars, chocolate chip cookies, whoopie pies, pumpkin bread, pumpkin muffins, blueberry coffee cake, and muffins. Warm apple crisp and whipped cream – YUM! She will also have a large variety of jams and conserves. Chris’s original batik quilts and table runners are delightful as well!
  •  Cornucopia Food Truck – Williamstown’s new farm-to-market food truck serving a rotating menu of tasty and creative Berkshire-inspired brunches – sourcing super-locally from several of our vendors!  They often have delicious hash, gyros, tasty salad, and mouth-watering dagwood sandwiches.
  • R&G Cheese Makers– Sean brings an assortment of hard and soft artisan cheeses, cow, sheep and goat’s milk, made nearby with locally sourced milk including fresh chevres, camemberts, blue, mozzarellas and ripened goat cheeses. Local favorites include soft-ripened shepherd’s wheel, pollenbert, and trufflebert.…taste a free sample or two!
  • Robin’s – chef and baker Robin Lenz serves town-favorite melty-but-crisp, made-to-order breakfast and lunch sandwiches. Breakfasts include local eggs on grilled English muffins with cheeses, sausage, and bacon from our market vendors. Look for assorted home-cooked sweet treats and biscuits!
  • Cindy’s Cookin’ Greek– Cindy will be out of town this week, but hopes to see everyone again soon.
  •  Caroline’s Scottish Bakery – traditional shortbreads with chocolate, cranberries, pecans, as well as Danish pastries filled with marzipan.

LOCAL ARTISANS

  • Crow Hill Farm– Merry will offer an array of lovingly prepared arts and craft kits (such as owl treasure keeper, design your own sailboat, create your own notecards), greeting cards, miniatures (gnomes, elves, fairies), hand knit items from alpaca and cotton…and new birthday fairies!!
  • Heritage Artisans – A talented group of five bring and demonstrate traditional fiber craftwork: basketry, spinning, weaving, and knitting. Carolyn, the expert knitter, is happy to help you get past any snags in your own knitting projects – just bring along your handiwork and ask for assistance.
  • Memphremagog Studios– From nearby southern Vermont, Emily brings unique silver earrings, bracelets, and necklaces, etched stemware glasses, and silk scarves
  • Peterman’s Boards & Bowls  – locally sourced wooden bowls, trays, napkin rings, salad tossers, bottle stoppers, cutting boards (including gorgeous “seconds”), featured in design magazines nationally!
  • Yarnwork – Nora Phykitt continues creating lovely and comfortable knitted, crocheted and felted clothing and accessories…her cottons are especially soft!
  • Beach Woodworking – Shaker-inspired tables, benches, boxes (including a special knitter’s box), cabinets, coat racks from locally sourced wooden boards – including ash, cherry, pine, hemlock, butternut, and chestnut…some from ancient barns!
  • Dancing Bare Soap – Maud is back with her popular organic soaps, lip balms, and foot balms. Dancing Bare’s products are vegan, fair trade, and infused with local and seasonal herbs and florals.
  • Berkshire Mountain Pottery – Anne’s back with functional hand-thrown and hand-crafted stoneware made here in Williamstown, including plates, platters, and bowls — espresso and latte cups, and coffee/tea mugs. Her beautiful blue glazes capture a dynamic summer sky.
  • Berkshire Stringed Instruments – Nick is back with his exquisite guitars, ukes, and mandolins made from wood sourced on his family farm. A master luthier, he runs a renowned school teaching his craft. Strum a few chords!
